Inspired by our corporate message “Safety with a Commonsense Approach” UK Event Safety (UKES) prides itself and its meaningful approach to health & safety which is underpinned with a robust wealth of first hand knowledge of the event industry.

The company started twelve years ago, facilitating fire and rescue cover for a wide range of events throughout the UK.  Running very much hand in hand with this was health and safety through which UK Event Safety developed as its primary role.

The fire and rescue work has long gone to make way for the focus on health and safety at events which could probably be better described as us caring for your event guests.  Without doubt many of the events at the UK’s venues bring with them the equivalent of the population of a village or small town and it is the promoter’s duty of care to ensure that they are all as safe as possible whilst enjoying your event.

Running very close to the safety of the public is of course the reputation management of your organisation which could be crippling as a result of a catastrophic incident but managed well, some of this risk is taken away.

UK Event Safety offer a range of services which frequently run hand in hand with other service providers.  As an example our company will often work as a multi agency response team at larger events, taking care of and managing fire, rescue, medical, health and safety and event control thus easing worries for the event promoter, providing a valuable single point of contact.

We have provided the newer promoters with guidance and documentation packages which align to the HSE Purple Guide and made representation for them at licensing meetings, setting them on the road to success using the correct approach and hopefully overcoming any fears that they had along the way.  At the other end of the scale the organisation has taken over health and safety management of a venue, putting into place each of the necessary systems and ensuring that these are appropriately embedded into the organisation’s strategy.

In addition to the management role, the team oversee the management of events providing health & safety coordination during events.  A typical example of this being attending pre event meetings, promulgating documentation, attendance at the event in a management role during build up, performance and break and finally submitting post incident reporting and if necessary hosting or attending de brief sessions.

Typifying the role that UK Event Safety fulfils is the recent work that has been carried out at the 2008 Bulldog Bash, which following a recent tragedy involving a member of their safety management team, UKES were invited to act as health and safety advisors / managers for the event. An additional difficult dimension was the politics attached to the very high profile policing operation which resulted from a fatal incident following the 2007 event.

Embracing the role through difficult circumstances proved challenging but as the role evolved it became clear to the key partner agencies that this was an extremely positive move demonstrating independent partnership working throughout the process.

Not only does the organisation have an excellent experience base relating to the event industry but also that of working in the public sector for thirty years as a fire officer.  This of course gives an added dimension being familiar and fully competent with command and control as a role which maps across into the role of Event Management or Event Controller.  Adding yet a further dimension to the package, work with the public sector we have become very well versed in media management and communicating with the public in times of crisis.  Whilst this is clearly not directly related to a public safety role, it does give us the experience of being well versed in  recognising and being able to manage the organisation’s vulnerabilities at times of crisis.

Training is a very important aspect of any organisation’s strategy and UK Event Safety can provide a range of courses, the scope of which extends from the most basic health & safety training to being able to stage full scale multi agency table top planning exercises.

UK Event Safety is dedicated to its corporate message, bringing ‘a commonsense approach’ to most every situation and whilst the organisation will never be an international conglomerate, we strive to preserve the personal touch whilst maintaining a service standard to be proud of.
